Still more decisions regarding the community safety zones throughout the city.

The issue now is dealing with changing the speed limits on the collectors and arterial roads in school zones. Chair of Engineering and Public Works Tanya Vrebosch says this will affect areas such as Algonquin Avenue and Jane Street. Vrebosch details that it wouldn’t be during all hours of the day. It would only be from 8am to 4pm, and anytime after the limit would return to whatever was posted. Vrebosch says it will still be up to the police to enforce the limits as well. She says the thought behind lowering the limit to 40, is that most people will go ten over the limit. She says if people are only going 50 and not 60 then those areas will be safer. Vrebosch also said speed fines would be double in those zones. Vrebosch says they will save money by only changing the signs at the entrances to the city. The sign would read speed limits 40 unless otherwise posted.
